A fire early Monday morning at a home in Naperville left two adults and two children displaced, according to a news release from the Naperville Fire Department.

Authorities received a call around 1:09 a.m. reporting on a fire on the back deck of a home in the 700 block of Kaiser Court. The caller confirmed that everyone had safely evacuated the building and that one of the homeowners was attempting to extinguish the fire with a garden hose. A general alarm response was dispatched, consisting of 10 pieces of fire apparatus and 24 personnel, the release said.

The first fire unit arrived around 1:15 a.m. to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters found a fire on the back deck of the home extending into the attic. Hose lines were quickly deployed to the rear of the home to contain and extinguish the deck fire, while additional crews went to the attic to check for and stop any fire extension, the release said.

The fire was brought under control and declared extinguished at 1:35 a.m., with crews remaining on the scene for about an additional 20 minutes to check for any remaining hot spots.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire, but the Naperville Transportation, Engineering and Development team has declared the building to be uninhabitable. Damages are estimated at more than $50,000. Improper disposal of charcoal coals was determined to be the cause of the blaze, the release said.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Naperville Police Department and the Naperville Department of Transportation, Engineering, and Development.
