Police are continuing to search for a missing Mundelein-area man who they say may have become a victim of foul play.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said it is continuing to seek the public’s assistance with information that may lead to locating Ruslan Furman.
Furman, 51, has not been seen since early November, and police recently ratcheted up their efforts to find him. Police searched Diamond Lake with sonar-equipped boats. Officers armed with search warrants combed through Furman’s house in the 16500 block of North Route 83 on Wednesday.
The investigation has reportedly led to the arrest of two men on drug and weapons charges, but they have not been charged directly with crimes connected to Furman’s disappearance.
Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said lake searches will continue as boats and sonar gear become available.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at (847) 377-4000. Anonymous tips can be left at the Lake County CrimeStoppers website.
Involuntary manslaughter
A Lindenhurst woman was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty this month to shooting her husband to death in what authorities said was an accident.
Kellee M. Holmes, 44, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter of a family member, which is a Class 2 felony, stemming from the death of her husband, Charles Holmes.
He was shot in the abdomen on Thanksgiving Day 2022 in the garage of the family’s home on Crooked Lake Lane. Holmes, 44, was brought to a hospital where he died later that day.
A 911 call indicated that the shooting was accidental, authorities said. Kellee Holmes was later charged in connection with her husband’s death.
Holmes was on home confinement for 999 days, which offered her enough credit to offset the four-year prison term she received. She pleaded guilty during a hearing on Nov. 7 in Lake County Court. She will be on parole through Nov. 7, 2026.
Lake County prosecutors asked for a 14-year sentence.
Traffic stop
Zion police say they charged a Winthrop Harbor man with multiple drunk-driving and weapons charges after a Nov. 17 traffic stop.
Police said they tried to pull over a 2024 Hyundai Genesis at 11:18 p.m. near the corner of Lewis Avenue and 13th Street after the driver disregarded a stop sign.
The vehicle briefly tried to drive off before parking in the 2100 block of Bethesda Boulevard. The driver, later identified as Lorenzo L. Taylor, 22, exited the vehicle and tried to walk away.
Taylor briefly struggled with officers before he was placed in handcuffs. He showed signs of intoxication, including smelling of alcohol and slurring his words, police said.
A search of his vehicle yielded a 9mm handgun, open alcohol and a small amount of marijuana, police said.
Taylor was charged with three counts of DUI and unlawful use of a weapon in addition to traffic counts and resisting an officer.
