
Applications being sought for Black and White Art Show
Jan. 28 is the deadline to submit an application to display an artwork at the East Dundee Art Council’s third annual Black and White Art Show, which will be held Saturday, Feb. 21, at Willow & Birch in East Dundee.
One piece per artist will be considered, with an admission fee of $20. Works must be in black and white and can be up to 25% yellow as an accent color. No AI work will be allowed.
Those selected for the exhibition will be notified via email or phone by Wednesday, Feb. 4. Artwork must be dropped off at the venue by Sunday, Feb. 15. Prizes will be awarded.

Tickets on sale for Black Tie New Year’s Eve Masquerade
The nonprofit African-American Coalition of Kane County will host a Black Tie New Year’s Eve Masquerade from 6:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, in the grand ballroom of the Holiday Inn & Suites Northwest Chicago in Elgin.
The night is geared toward people who are 35 and older, according to a social media post for the event. Guests are invited to wear black tie formal attire, and masks are required upon entry. Live music will be provided by Harlan Jefferson and DJ Maurice “Ice” Culpepper.
Admission is $140.56, which includes dinner and a service fee for the ticket. To attend without dinner at 8 p.m., the cost is $103.22 per person or $172.57 per couple, which includes two hours of open bar and a ticket service fee.

Elgin’s outdoor event incentive program taking applications
Applications for Elgin’s 2026 outdoor event incentive program will be accpeted through Wednesday, Jan. 21.
The program offers financial support for people and organizations planning outdoor community events. It includes encore, market makers, active Elgin and launch program categories, each designed to support different event types and community goals that will cost $15,000 to $40,000 per event.

Registration underway for Frozen Oaks 5K run on Feb. 7
Entries are being accepted for the seventh annual Frozen Oaks 5K, which will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Randall Oaks Golf Club, 4101 Binnie Road, West Dundee.
If paid by Wednesday, Dec. 31, the registration fee is $55. It climbs to $60 if paid between Thursday, Jan. 1, to Monday, Feb. 2, according to the Dundee Township Park District website. Race day registration between 8:30 and 9:45 a.m. is $65.
Participants will receive a ticket to a post-race chili bar, a drink ticket and a sweatshirt. Awards will be presented to the top three finishers in various age groups for men and women.
