The Will County sheriff’s office arrested Homer Glen resident Michael Farrell, 52, and charged him with reckless discharge of a firearm and aggravated battery of a police officer.

Will County officers said they heard 13 shots fired from Farrell’s residence when they responded to a neighbors report of gunshots about 7:35 a.m. Sunday in the 16100 Block of Twin Oak Court.

The deputies then ordered a shelter in place and established a perimeter around the residence, police said, and the Will County SWAT team and crisis negotiations team became involved.

A short time later, police said, several deputies observed a person matching Farrell’s description enter a parked van on the property.

Farrell exited his vehicle, as commanded by the officers, but he refused to obey other commands deputies were giving him, police said.

Police said Farrell began to walk toward deputies in an aggressive manner and again refused to obey the commands, and was incapacitated by a deputy using a Taser and taken into custody.

Sheriff’s police said Farrell kicked at deputies when put into the squad car, striking one in the wrist and forearm with an upward kick.

Inside the house, deputies found spent shell casings and a tan colored handgun laying on a kitchen counter, police said. Detectives later found two more firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

The shelter in place was later lifted, but a heavy police presence remained in the area as members of the sheriff’s office continued to investigate, the sheriff’s office reported.

Farrell was taken to the Will County jail, where he is awaiting his initial court appearance.
