Comedy Dance Chicago to present show at The Hemmens

Comedy Dance Chicago will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at The Hemmens Cultural Center in downtown Elgin.

The act offers a mashup of sketch comedy, word play, physical humor, music, dance and audience participation, according to the Hemmens webpage. Material has covered everything from pumpkin spice lattes to an old-fashioned staring contest, a .

Sherman Hospital on nationwide list for best maternity care

U.S. News & World Report recently included Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin on its annual listing of the Best Hospitals for Maternity Care.

This annual list is based on above-average outcomes and quality measures for such things as unexpected complications, C-sections and breast milk feeding, according to an Advocate Health Care news release.

“This prestigious honor is a reflection of our dedicated experts who understand the importance of supporting expectant parents through one of the most memorable moments in their lives,” Allison Wyler, president of Advocate Health Care’s North Chicago Area, said in the release.

31st annual American Grands to be held Jan. 24 at ECC

The 31st annual American Grands recital will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, in the Blizzard Theater at Elgin Community College’s Arts Center/Building H in Elgin

The musical extravaganza will feature 12 grand pianos and nearly 400 local performers who range from budding young pianists to seasoned adult musicians, according to the arts center’s website.

Under the direction of conductor Colin Holman and musical director Stephanie Spolum, “the event is a vibrant celebration of the piano and the passionate community that brings it to life,” the site said.

Moeller hosting ‘stop and talk’ at Gail Borden Public Library

State Rep. Anna Moeller, D-Elgin, will hold a “stop and talk” event from 11 a.m. to noon Monday, Jan. 26, in the Rolling Donut Cafe at the Gail Borden Public Library in downtown Elgin.

Attorney Steve Migala elected Elgin chamber chairman

Members of the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce have elected attorney Steven Migala to serve as the 2026 chairman of its board of directors.

An Elgin resident, Migala has been on the chamber’s board since 2023, according to a news release. He is a shareholder at Lavelle Law, a member of various bar associations and previously chaired the Chicago Bar Association’s Corp. and Business Law Committee.

Migala also previously served a 10-year term on Elgin’s Planning and Zoning Commission.

“I thank the EAC board for the opportunity to serve as chairperson. I look forward to partnering with the board and staff to enhance our membership value and continuing my commitment to the Elgin community,” Migala said in the release.
