Library releases report showing strong library use
About 81% of Naperville households have at least one library card, an all-time high, according to the Naperville Public Library’s annual report released this week.
In 2025, the number of cardholders increased by nearly 10%, and the library instituted a new policy to automatically renew library cards for Naperville residents, making it easier for the cards to remain active, library officials said.
Patrons checked out more than 3.3 million items last year, which saved about $28 million by borrowing and not buying them, officials said. Of those, about 1.1 million were digital materials.
There were about 1.2 million trips to the three library branches last year, which offered a total of more than 2,200 programs and 1,200 story times, the report said.
Nearly 2,000 children participated in the winter reading program, which ran from Dec. 15, 2024, to Jan. 31, 2025, and nearly 10,000 people participated in the summer reading program, which ran from June 1 to Aug. 15.
Will County to hold vaccination clinic on Wednesday
The Will County Health Department will hold a vaccination clinic from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, in its community room, 501 Ella Ave., Joliet, to help combat the rise of respiratory illness.
The clinic will be walk-in only, with no appointments accepted. Those who attend should bring identification, immunization records and an insurance card, if available.
There are no out-of-pocket costs for Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) vaccines for infants up to eight months old and COVID-19 vaccines for all ages, a news release said.
Through the Illinois Vaccine Access Program and the Illinois Department of Public Health, the county can provide vaccines to all Illinois residents regardless of insurance coverage, the release said.
The clinic will also offer a low-cost flu shot for uninsured, underinsured and those with Medicaid, PPO Medicare and Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO. Flu cases are currently high throughout the state, the release said.
