The West Aurora School District 129 board recently reviewed a bid for maintenance work on existing equipment at the West Aurora Learning Center/Early Childhood Academy.

“Once again, we had another bid opening that was under budget,” West Aurora School District Associate Superintendent of Operations Angie Smith told the board.

The total base bid proposal is for $185,800.

While there were three bidders of record, only one bid was received, which was still beneficial for the district, she said.

“In this particular situation, the bid actually came in lower than some of the previous estimates. There are times when we would not recommend accepting one bid,” Smith said.

The district’s architectural firm, Chicago-based Studio GC Architecture and Interiors, did analyze the bid and the bidder’s qualifications and recommended the contract be awarded to Artlip and Sons, Inc. of Aurora.

The work involves preventative maintenance to existing equipment, specifically the main cooling plant, architect Cory Boaz of Studio GC architecture and Interiors said.

The school board will vote to award the contract at its next meeting.
