CINDERELLA’S CLOSET SALE SET FOR MARCH 7-8

YWCA Elgin’s annual Cinderella’s Closet formalwear sale for high school students will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 7, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, March, 8 at the organization’s 220 E. Chicago St. location in downtown Elgin.

Items available at the event include formal attire, jewelry donated by Claire’s, purses, shoes and makeup, according to a YWCA Elgin website. New for 2026, the sale also will include suits, tuxedos, button-down shirts, ties, bow ties, suspenders and cummerbunds.

Attendees will be greeted and assisted by a personal shopper, and students will have access to private dressing rooms, the release said.

Admission is by appointment and requires a $35 donation or is free with a referral from a student’s high school guidance counselor. To schedule an appointment, go to ywcaelgin.org/cinderellas-closet.

ELGIN POLICE TO HOLD BUSINESS CHATS IN MARCH

Elgin police officers will be stopping by local businesses in March to introduce themselves and offer help on issues with which they can assist, according to a social media post.

The visits will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, March 2, in the area of Larkin Avenue, McLean Boulevard and Jane Drive; 10 a.m. Monday, March 9, along Technology and Bushwood drives; 5 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, in the 1000 and 1100 blocks of Dundee Avenue.

Also, 10 a.m. Thursday, March 12, in the area of South Grove Avenue, East Highland Avenue and Fulton Street; noon Friday, March 13, in the South Randall Road and South Street area; 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, in the 700 and 800 blocks of Summit Street; and 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, from the 600 to 800 blocks of Villa Street.

FOREST PRESERVE FOUNDATION HOLDING PLANT SALE

The Kane Forest Preserve Foundation has announced the return of its Native Plant Sale, aimed at promoting biodiversity, supporting local ecosystems and fostering sustainable gardening practices, foundation officials said.

The in-person sale will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 25, at Creek Bend Nature Center, 37W700 Dean St. in St. Charles.

At the event, patrons can browse a selection of native plants, receive gardening advice from staff members, and participate in raffles and giveaways, according to a news release.
