Naperville Park District plans to do prescribed burns this spring at about two dozen locations, including numerous parks, Springbrook Golf Course, Fort Hill Activity Center, Knoch Knolls Nature Center and the Riverwalk, officials announced.
The burns will be conducted, weather permitting, by park maintenance crews and third-party contractors, a park district news release said.
Prescribed burns are intentionally set fires that will improve the overall health of an ecosystem by clearing the ground of invasive weeds and reducing the amount of leaf and plant debris, the release said.
They are dependent upon weather factors, including low wind velocity, specific wind direction and a low chance of precipitation.
