Six people were forced out of their home late Saturday night after a car fire in the garage spread to the house and caused about $800,000 in damage, Naperville Fire Department officials said.
Firefighters arrived at the fire scene in the 1100 block of Burke Court about 11:10 p.m. to find “heavy fire conditions in the garage with rapid extension into the remainder of the home,” a news release said.
Because the blaze was large and spread quickly, an “extended firefight” was needed before it brought under control about 12:35 a.m., the release said. An additional 60 minutes was needed to extinguish hot spots and conduct overhaul.
All six residents were able to exit the building unharmed, and no firefighters were injured. The house was deemed uninhabitable by the Naperville Transportation, Engineering, and Development team.
The source of the fire remains under investigation.
