Zion police have charged a man with drug-induced homicide following the overdose death last month of a woman, according to police and Lake County prosecutors.
Samuel McLain, 35, appeared in court Friday, charged in the death of Kayla Robinson, a 33-year-old Zion woman.
Zion police and rescue personnel found Robinson dead on Feb. 3 after responding to a call for an unresponsive woman in the 2300 block of Elisha Avenue.
An autopsy revealed her death was caused by an overdose of fentanyl and alprazolam, police said.
An investigation later determined that McClain sold drugs to Robinson hours before her death, authorities said.
“First, I want to thank the Zion Police Department for their outstanding work in this case,” State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart said. “If you cause someone’s death by dealing drugs, we will find you, prosecute you, and seek to jail you – without the ability to post cash bond now that we ended cash bail.”
Prosecutors are seeking to have McClain detained while his case moves through the court system.
