A 13-year-old girl was critically wounded Friday night on the South Side in the Oakland neighborhood, Chicago police said.
Shortly before 9:45 p.m., officers responded to a call of a person shot in the 3800 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue. A 13-year-old girl was standing outside with a group of friends when a light-colored sedan drove past them. Someone inside the sedan pulled out a firearm and opened fire in the girl’s direction, police said. The shooter fled the scene.
The girl suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body and was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition, police said.
No one was in custody for the attack, and detectives were investigating.
