Chicago police opened a death investigation after a 52-year-old man was pulled from the Chicago River Saturday morning in the Lincoln Square neighborhood.

Shortly before 7:30 a.m., officers responded to a marine distress call in the 5200 block of North Virginia Avenue. Chicago firefighters pulled the unresponsive man from the river and he was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity wasn’t immediately released.

A death investigation was launched pending an autopsy scheduled for Sunday, police said.
