A teenager was killed Monday morning when he apparently lost control of his car and crashed into a tree in Deer Park, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.
The driver, who was 17, has not yet been identified.
Police said he was driving south on Ela Road at about 10 a.m. when he apparently lost control of his BMW. The car, which was traveling at a high rate of speed, left the road and crashed into a tree, police said.
The crash site was north of Long Grove Road, authorities said.
Police officers who responded said the car showed signs of “catastrophic” damage. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved.
An autopsy is being planned as the investigation continues, authorities said.
