Zoom Diallo had 22 points and 11 assists and scored the go-ahead basket in overtime as Washington defeated USC 83-79 in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament on Wednesday at the United Center.

The 12th-seeded Huskies (16-16) will take on fifth-seeded Ohio State in a Thursday quarterfinal. Washington beat the visiting Buckeyes 81-74 on Jan. 11.

Diallo scored 15 points over the second half and overtime despite staying in the game after picking up his fourth foul with nearly 13 minutes left in regulation. Quimari Peterson made five 3-pointers for his 15 points, and Wesley Yates III also scored 15. Hannes Steinbach, who scored 24 and 22 points in Washington’s two regular-season wins over the Trojans, finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Kam Woods scored 24 points with seven assists for the 14th-seeded Trojans (18-14), who lost their eighth straight. Jacob Cofie added 14 points, Jordan Marsh had 13 and Ezra Ausar and Ryan Cornish 10 each.

Diallo’s bucket with 2:18 left in overtime gave the Huskies the lead, and Peterson added a 3-pointer with a minute to go. Woods completed a three-point play to get the Trojans within a point and forced a Diallo turnover with 24.2 seconds left. But Woods missed on a drive and fouled Diallo, who made two free throws for an 82-79 lead.

USC called timeout with eight seconds remaining, but Marsh missed an awkward 3 and Hannes Steinbach made 1 of 2 free-throw attempts.

USC led by as many 13 in the second half then Washington went on a 20-4 run to go up 64-61 with six minutes left in regulation. The game was tied at 71 with a minute left, but Diallo and Woods missed jumpers on their teams’ final possessions.

Cooper Koch scored a career-high 19 points, Bennett Stirtz added 17 and the pair fueled a run of 21 straight points to help send Iowa to a 75-64 win over Maryland in the first game Wednesday.

Koch made 5 of 8 3-point attempts and Stirtz had eight assists and a team-high six rebounds for the ninth-seeded Hawkeyes (21-11), who snapped a three-game losing streak and will take on eighth-seeded Ohio State in a quarterfinal Thursday. Iowa beat Ohio State at home 74-57 on Feb. 25 in the teams’ only regular-season meeting.

Darius Adams led the No. 17-seeded Terrapins (12-21) with 14 points. Isaiah Watts made four 3s for his 12 points, and David Coit also scored 12. Solomon Washington grabbed 13 rebounds.

Koch hit a trio of 3-pointers and Stirtz — who had missed his first seven 3-point attempts — added two in the 21-0 run that ended with Iowa ahead 51-34 eight minutes into the second half.

Maryland rallied to get the deficit down to nine, but Koch hit his fifth 3 to put the lead back into double figures, where it remained for the final 6½ minutes.

Watts came off the bench in the first half to make three 3-pointers, and the Terrapins sank six straight shots in a 15-0 run for a 21-10 lead. But the Terrapins made just one of their last 12 shots — including nine misses from beyond the 3-point line — over the final eight minutes. Iowa took advantage, outscoring the Terrapins 15-5 to cut the deficit to 26-25.

Rutgers 72, Minnesota 67

Tariq Francis scored 29 points to lead No. 14 seed Rutgers over 11th-seeded Minnesota 72-67 in Wednesday’s final game.

Rutgers (14-18) faces sixth-seeded UCLA on Thursday.

Jamichael Davis hit a 3-pointer with 6:47 to play that gave Rutgers the lead for good. It was part of a 17-5 run that pushed the Scarlet Knights’ advantage to 64-57 with 1:53 remaining. Emmanuel Ogbole’s dunk capped the surge, and the Scarlet Knights then shot 8 of 8 from the free-throw line to seal it.

Francis shot 9 of 16 from the floor and made five 3-pointers. Davis added 13 points and hit three 3s to go with six assists. Ogbole finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. Harun Zrno also made two 3s to help Rutgers set a program record with 10 made 3-pointers in a conference tournament game.

Cade Tyson scored 18 of his 24 points in the second half for Minnesota (15-17). Bobby Durkin added 15 points and Grayson Grove added 10.

Grove scored all 10 of his points in the first half for Minnesota, which shot 52% (12 of 23) for a 31-29 halftime lead. Francis made four 3s and scored 16 points for Rutgers.
