An Oswego Township man has been found guilty by a Kane County jury of first-degree murder in connection with a shooting in 2021 that killed an Aurora man, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office said.

According to statements presented in court by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys Kelly Orland and Brandon Raney, Ladarius A. Parker, 27, of Oswego Township, was attending a party at a home in the 1700 block of Stonegate Drive in Montgomery on May 2, 2021, when he shot and killed Christopher B. McMorris, 30, of Aurora, as McMorris sat in a parked vehicle, a news release from the State’s Attorney’s Office on Monday said.

The Montgomery Police Department — with assistance from the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force, Kane County Sheriff’s Office, Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, Kane County SWAT Team, Kendall County Special Response Team and the Aurora, Oswego, Yorkville and Freeport police departments — conducted an investigation into the incident, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office said.

Parker was ultimately arrested on Jan. 7, 2022, by the U.S. Marshals Service in Freeport.

The Kane County jury found Parker guilty of first-degree murder, finding that he personally discharged the firearm used in the killing, the news release said.

Parker’s next court appearance is set for May 1 for motions and sentencing, per the State’s Attorney’s Office. He remains in custody at the Kane County jail.
