Incumbent Sadia Covert appears to have lost her bid to retain her District 5 seat on the DuPage County Board.

With 100% of the unofficial votes tallied, Covert was more than 2,500 behind fellow Democrat Ian Holzhauer, a Naperville City Council member. Marylee Leu placed third in the Democratic primary race.

As of 10:45 p.m., the vote count was:

Covert: 6,269

Leu: 2,669

Holzhauer: 8,828

The numbers do not include those mail-in ballots that are post-marked for Tuesday but do not arrive by Election Day and those that were flagged for further verification. Final results will not be certified until 10 days or more after the election.

Holzhauer will face Republican Chris Jacks in the November election for a four-year term. Jacks was unopposed in the Republican primary.

District 5 encompasses large portions of Naperville and Aurora.
