The race to succeed retiring U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky resulted in more than a dozen candidates on the Democratic ballot and multiple running as Republicans.

Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss won the Democratic nomination, though it was a close call. The Associated Press waited more than two and a half hours to call the race.

The Associated Press called the Republican primary for John Elleson shortly after 10 p.m.
