A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon when Chicago police said an attempted armed robbery in the West Pullman neighborhood turned deadly.
Just past 3:30 p.m., police said the teen approached a 27-year-old man in the 11700 block of South Normal Avenue with a gun in hand and tried to take his belongings. The man took out his own handgun and shot the teen in his chest, police said.
The teen was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was later pronounced dead. The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the death, but withheld his identity. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
Police recovered two handguns at the scene. The man was taken in for questioning as Calumet Area detectives investigated.
