Police arrested an Antioch man after he allegedly fired a shotgun to chase away fishermen who were on a pond on his property, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.

Theodore Cartner, 76, was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm after the Saturday evening incident.

Police said they responded to the 43000 block of North Lake Avenue around 9 p.m.

Fishermen in a boat were on a pond belonging to Cartner, police said, after accessing it via a public channel.

A verbal disagreement broke out between Cartner, who remained on land, and the fishermen, and Cartner retrieved a shotgun. He fired the weapon, and the pellets landed near the boat.

Cartner admitted firing the gun to want the men to leave the pond, police said. He surrendered the shotgun to police and was taken into custody.
