
Homewood resident Kyran Smith, 14, was killed Sunday night when the driver of a Chevy Equinox traveling south on Governors Highway veered off the roadway and struck two stopped cars, the Homewood Police Department said in a statement.
Smith, who was identified in the Cook County medical examiner’s report, was a passenger in one of the stopped cars. The two cars were stopped at Governors Highway facing 183rd Street westbound when struck by the Chevy Equinox, police said.
The driver of the Chevy Equinox ran from the scene but was quickly found by officers, treated for minor injuries and taken to a hospital, according to police.
The drivers of the two stopped cars, as well as another passenger, were also treated and taken to the hospital, police said.
Smith was pronounced dead at the scene at about 8:50 p.m.
The Homewood Police Department is investigating the circumstances of the crash, and asked for anyone who may have witnessed the accident to call 708-206-3420.
