Weather officials are expecting temperatures in the high 80s and low 90s leading up to Thursday when severe thunderstorms are expected with a possibility of damaging wind and large hail.

Starting Tuesday in portions of north central and northeast Illinois, and northwest Indiana, there is a low risk of thunderstorms.

A thunderstorm or two may develop in the area Tuesday night with a risk of damaging winds up to 65 mph and hail up to a half dollar in size.

From Wednesday through Thursday, the risk of thunderstorms elevates when multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms are expected. But the greatest risk for severe weather will be Thursday, officials warn.

Flooding is possible in some areas.

Current morning conditions at O’Hare International Airport are rain/fog/mist at 73 degrees. Farther south at Midway Airport, conditions are overcast at 75 degrees.

Tuesday’s high temperature is expected to reach at least 86 degrees, with Wednesday’s high temperature expected to reach 92 degrees. On Thursday, temperatures will slightly lower to 89 degrees when severe thunderstorms are expected, officials said.
