Interim Chicago police Superintendent Fred Waller on Tuesday ordered the closure of a bar in Lincoln Park following a deadly shooting nearby over the weekend, according to the area’s alderman.

“In partnership with the local community, my office has pushed for further restrictions and investigation of this bar due to several years of safety incidents,” Ald. Timmy Knudsen, 43rd, said in a message to constituents Tuesday. “I am grateful to Superintendent Waller for understanding the ongoing public safety threat of this bar, and taking the rare step of a Summary Closure Order.”
Around 11:45 p.m. Sunday, two men got into an argument with the victim, a 30-year-old man, in the 2200 block of North Lincoln Avenue, before they took handguns out and shot him multiple times in the head and body. He was pronounced dead at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center soon afterward, police said.
Knudsen said the shooting followed a fight at The Dime, 2263 N. Lincoln Ave. A representative for the bar could not be reached for comment.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the victim as Malik McCorkle of the Englewood neighborhood. His death was ruled a homicide by multiple gunshot wounds.
According to a police report obtained by the Tribune, the two alleged shooters first fled the area, but one man returned, said he’d played a role in the shooting and handed over a gun. Near North District (18th) police arrested the man and found that he had a concealed carry license, the report stated.
Officers recovered one other gun from the crime scene and were still pursuing the second shooter, the report said. Charges were pending against the man in custody as Belmont Area (Area 3) detectives continued their investigation.
