Organizations had to submit a letter of intent, describing how they would benefit Gurnee citizens through the grant, and 36 nonprofits and community organizations applied for the money.

Gurnee becomes the latest Lake County municipality to restrict ICE’s activities within its borders.

The wooden playground was built in 1992 through the efforts of more than 2,000 community members.

Gurnee Economic Development Director Ellen Dean said that she could not confirm if the vacancy will be filled by IKEA.

Despite not being a sport offered by Warren Township High School, the Warren Blue Line Hockey Association was formed, offering the school’s students an opportunity to play club hockey.

“There’s big holes. There’s rocks. There’s equipment that’s just been left,” village resident Nancy Filippo said.

A final budget is scheduled for consideration at the board's September meeting.

It will feature 32 one-bedroom apartments, 48 studio apartments and 105 hotel rooms. The property will also have two restaurants on-site, as well as a cocktail lounge.
