Visitation for Richard A. Bernard, 93, of Palatine for over 30 years, will be on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 10:00 AM until the time of the Funeral Service at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 200 N. Plum Grove Road, Palatine, IL. The Interment will follow at Union Cemetery, Palatine. A reception will follow the burial at the church. Dick was born on January 9, 1933 and passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026. Dick was the beloved husband of Carol Bernard for 67 years. He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Dorothy Bernard, and his sister, Carol Anne. Dick, a US Naval Air veteran of the Korean War, was deeply involved in the ministry at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palatine, where he volunteered for the Good Samaritan Ministries from its inception to present day, and also served on the Board of Directors for many years. His dedication extended to numerous charitable efforts, including active participation in Lutheran Church Charities’ Comfort Dog Ministries. He also contributed to Immanuel’s Crossways Ministries and faithfully attended Bible studies such as Word Among Us. A devoted student of the Bible, Dick was a regular church attendee and an integral part of the church community. He was a member of the 50’s Plus group and took pride in assisting with church landscaping projects. His faith journey included trips to Israel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Palatine or the Palatine Township Foundation.
