Sister Josephine M. Roche, BVM OBITUARY

Sister Josephine M. (Thomas Kathryn) Roche, BVM, 100, died Thursday, June 4, 2026, at St. Joseph Village, in Chicago.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at St. Edward Catholic Church, 4350 W. Sunnyside Ave., Chicago, followed immediately by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at a later date.

Sister Josephine ministered in Chicago as a secondary teacher at The Immaculata HS and Alvernia HS and as administrative assistant to the Business and Theology Departments at Mundelein College. She also taught in Milwaukee; Burlington, Iowa; Wichita, Kans.; and Santa Barbara, Calif.

She was born on June 19, 1925, to Thomas and Mary (Thomas) Roche. She entered the BVM Congregation on Sept. 8, 1948, from Our Lady of Lourdes, Chicago.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Madeline Roche. She is survived by her twin sister Maureen Kennedy, nieces, nephews and the Sisters of Charity, BVM, with whom she shared life for 77 years.
