Illinois on Friday morning unveiled new football uniforms and helmets it will wear in the 2018 season.

The uniforms — with navy blue, orange and white jersey and pants options — feature a simple design reminiscent of the Dick Butkus era in the 1960s. The traditional “block I” logo is on the sides of the new orange helmet and at the bottom of the jersey collars, and the new helmet no longer has a metallic matte finish to better match the uniforms

Illinois also unveiled a new “Gray Ghost” uniform and helmet to wear during homecoming games in honor of Red Grange.

The jerseys feature a two-column pattern symbolic of the columns at Memorial Stadium.
