Many commentators have noted the glaring inconsistencies in President Reagan`s State of the Union address. Yet I have seen no reference to the most startling of all.

In one breath Mr. Reagan made the impassioned pronouncement:

”Abortion is either the taking of human life or it isn`t; and if it is

–and medical technology is increasingly showing it is–it must be stopped.”

Moments later he emphatically recommended ”the use of the death penalty where necessary.”

Perhaps Mr. Reagan can give us an answer to the question: ”Why do we kill people who kill people, to show that killing people is wrong?”
