Plans are proceeding for the big-screen adaptation of Bob Woodward`s
”Wired: The Short Life and Fast Times of John Belushi.” Barring delays caused by the writers` strike, the project should be before the cameras by late fall.
”We`re halfway through the script,” reports producer Ed Feldman, who says that Woodward is ”very involved in the creation of the film.”
Feldman, responsible for Harrison Ford`s ”Witness” hit, is a partner in ”Wired” with former entertainment attorney Charles Meeker. They are financing the project and expect that they might not be able to make a deal with a studio until the movie is made.
”Every studio in town has been afraid of it,” Feldman says. ”It affects a lot of people in this industry. No studio would touch the book. Let`s face it: If they had, they easily could have outbid me.
”We`re going to have to show them we`re not doing an exploitative film. It`s going to be more of a human interest story, a study of the development of comedy in the United States during the `70s, not just a drug story about someone shooting up all day.”
