Those who have been to Nicaragua report that living conditions are very difficult there. When Ronald Reagan was a radio commentator, he had words of praise for the then-military dictator of Nicaragua, Gen. Anastasio Somoza.

When Jeane Kirkpatrick, Mr. Reagan`s representative to the United Nations, visited Gen. Augusto Pinochet, the dictator of Chile who had overthrown the democratic government and had shot its president, Salvador Allende, she described Pinochet as ”a very nice man” and delivered to him a gift from President Reagan.

To hear Mr. Reagan try to justify his murderous campaign against the present government of Nicaragua as founded in ”love of democracy” is hypocrisy indeed.
