Upon reading the article ”The American Touch,” Sunday, April 7, I felt I should write and clear up a misconception.
You state, ”Acceptable touches . . . (include): Attention-getting as with waitresses. . . .” This in fact is completely unacceptable to restaurant and store personnel.
As a captain in a fine dining restaurant on Michigan Avenue I have dealt with the public extensively. A waitress or clerk is to be of service to the clients, not to be a servant and treated as such. Touching the clerk or waitperson is not included in service.
