They came early and they came late, but mostly they came in limousines and minks Wednesday night for the fourth game of the NBA championship series. From 4 p.m. until after the tipoff at 6 more than 90 limos–from economy models seating six to stretch limos into which all the Irish in Boston could fit–cruised up to the Forum.
Slowly, they made their way through pedestrian traffic, seeming to enjoy the oohs and ahs they brought. One by one, they halted in front of the Forum Club, where the rich and famous, or only rich or famous, gather for drinks before the game.
From there they proceed to their seats, the courtside seats that cost $150 each.
One woman popped from her white stretch limo with diamonds flashing in the Southern California sun. Behind her came three guys with no necks, very obviously bodyguards. An attempt to engage the woman in chatter failed miserably.
The parade of princes and princesses continued. Limo after limo. Bulging wallet after bulging wallet.
Finally, only 10 minutes before game time, the show-stopper arrived. A blinding white limo motored through the parking lot, looking much like the 50 or so that preceded it.
