Control Data Corp., Minneapolis, announced it will shut down most of its mainframe computer systems division for three weeks because of the electronics industry slump. Four plants in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, with about 4,000 employees, as well as operations in Sunnyvale and Anaheim, Calif., and Washington, D.C., will be shut the last week of August and on Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks. Employees must either take vacation time then or time off without pay.
