PPG Industries Inc. has announced plans to acquire Swedlow Inc., an industry leader in the manufacture and sale of fabricated products, for $32.60 a share in cash that would made the deal worth about $42.3 million.

Swedlow, headquartered in Garden Grove, Calif., had fiscal 1985 sales of $46.3 million.

PPG, based in Pittsburgh, had 1984 sales of $4.2 billion. The company is a leading manufacturer of glass, chemicals, coatings and resins and fiberglass.
