President Reagan is determined to block all avenues of progress for women employees: First, Reagan aides draft an executive order repealing affirmative action goals for federal contractors; then the Reagan Justice Department files a brief asking a U.S. District Court to dismiss the comparable worth claims of Illinois nurses.
What Reagan is doing is denying women the opportunity to work at ”male” jobs–the ones that pay a living wage; then his appointed judges will rule against fair and equitable wages for women whose ”female” jobs require comparable education, training and skills as do ”male” jobs.
Such blatant injustices are guaranteed to force more women and their families into poverty. President Reagan then brands poor women ”welfare cheats,” and reduces their Medicaid and WIC (women, infant, children)
funding. Reagan`s Justice Department has already asked the Supreme Court to reverse Roe v. Wade, so even more children can become malnourished little
”welfare cheats.”
Recently a Chicago TV commentator castigated the National Organization for Women for considering President Reagan an enemy. If President Reagan is a friend of women, what a way he has of showing it.
