Wheaton threw a scare into Augustana, but in the end, the defending Division III champs ground out a 26-14 victory Saturday in Wheaton. It was the 38th straight College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin victory for Augustana. Quarterback Kirk Bednar injured his right knee in the first quarter and was replaced by Troy Bex.
”Wheaton just played a super game,” said Augie coach Bob Reade. ”We knew it wasn`t going to be easy. It isn`t easy to go undefeated. You can prove that by the number of teams that have gone undefeated the last five years
–one, us.”
Du Page, ranked No. 6 in the national junior-college poll, had its 10-game winning streak snapped in Glen Ellyn, losing 17-10 to 15th-ranked Moraine Valley.

Augustana 26, Wheaton 14–Shane McCormick scored two of his three touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Augustana (3-0, 3-0) finished with 404 yards, 327 on the ground. Keith Bishop was 30 of 55 for 253 yards and a TD for Wheaton (1-2, 1-2). Jim Jorden had 13 catches for 119 yards to become Wheaton`s all-time leader in receptions with 171.
Moraine Valley 17, Du Page 10–Tom Fuessel threw a 24-yard TD pass to Matt Foley and a 6-yarder to Mark Schlinger and Dave Bruno kicked a 52-yard field goal for Moraine (4-1, 4-1). Du Page (4-1, 3-1) scored on Lorenzo Davis` 1-yard run and Scott Murnick`s 27-yard field goal.
Lake Forest 12, Monmouth 10–Avelino Cortez threw a 70-yard pass to Colin Lundgren with five seconds left to set up a 16-yard field goal by Mike Olsen in Monmouth, Ill. The Foresters (3-1, 3-1) also scored on a blocked punt and a safety. Monmouth is 1-3, 1-3.
Coe 28, Chicago 10–Tom Kaloupek scored twice on 1-yard runs, and Glen Carlson (13 of 22 for 197 yards) also ran for a TD. Coe is 4-0, 2-0. Bruce Montella, who rushed for 305 yards last week, was held to 87 for Chicago (3-1, 1-1). Maroon QB Matt Schaefer suffered an injured finger.
Illinois Wesleyan 13, North Central 0–Brett Robinson kicked field goals of 25 and 32 yards and Ken Anderson recovered a teammate`s fumble in the end zone for a TD in Bloomington, Ill. North Central (2-2, 1-2) had five turnovers. It was the first shutout for Wesleyan (2-2, 2-1) in four years.
Illinois Benedictine 35, North Park 7–John Karpowicz was 10 of 21 for 127 yards and 3 TDs in Lisle. IBC (2-2) gained 392 yards to 141 for North Park (0-3), which had minus-25 yards rushing. Scott Love had 10 catches for 166 yards for the Vikings.
Elmhurst 35, Carroll 28–Bob Sanfilippo rushed for 158 yards and scored 3 fourth-quarter TDs in Waukesha, Wis. The Bluejays are 3-0, 2-0. Dave Weber was 16 of 32 for 383 yards and 3 TDs for Carroll (0-3, 0-3).
Concordia 28, MacMurray 24–Rob Shippy (10 of 26 for 184 yards and 2 TDs), scored on a 14-yard run with 1:38 left in Jacksonville, Ill. Concordia is 1-3. Reese Wilson rushed for 176 yards on 29 carries and a TD for MacMurray (2-2). Vic Wildenradt was 22 of 37 for 221 yards and a TD.
St. Ambrose 42, Northeastern Illinois 7–Jeff Stelk and Bob Jurevitz each scored twice in Niles. St. Ambrose is 2-1. Tony Monroe scored on a 17-yard interception return for NEIU (0-3).
Alma 35, Olivet Nazarene 7–Dean Ulrich (19 of 33 for 216 yards) ran for two TDs in Kankakee. Greg Luczak had 9 catches for 110 yards and a 10-yard TD. Alma is 2-1. Olivet is 0-2.
Millikin 34, Carthage 15–Kelly Jackson rushed for 126 yards and a TD and Tom Kreller added 100 yards and another score for Millikin (3-0, 3-0) in Kenosha, Wis. Jeff Query returned a kickoff 94 yards for a TD. Leon Lornegay returned a punt 97 yards for a TD for Carthage (0-3, 0-2).
