Initial claims for state unemployment insurance fell by 5,000, to 390,000, in the week ended Dec. 14 from 395,000 the preceding week, the U.S. Labor Department said. The total number of persons receiving state
unemployment benefits fell by 86,000, to 2,603,000, in the week ended Dec. 7 from the preceding week`s 2,689,000.
