Barring a rash of injuries and a sudden reversal of form, Lane Tech is certain to win the Public League`s Blue-North Section title this year. The question is what will happen when coach Ken Olson`s Indians face the tougher Red Division teams in the playoffs?
The Indians are beginning to think of the playoffs after routing Clemente 97-55 Wednesday.
The victory was Lane Tech`s 10th in a row and improved the Indians`
record to 11-2 overall and 3-0 in the Blue-North.
Adrian Moore, a 6-foot-3-inch third-year guard, scored 22 points, Baron McLaughlin added 20 and Tom Killen 16 for Lane Tech.
The Indians led 21-16 after the first quarter, 47-23 at the intermission and 70-37 after three quarters. Jose Acevedo had 21 for Clemente (6-6, 2-1).
Englewood 71, Lindblom 62–Englewood (13-5, 2-1) took a 20-9 first-quarter lead and never looked back as Reggie Palmer scored 19, Winston Bell 17 and Ronald Brown 16. Edward King had 18 and Michael Parks 16 for Lindblom
(4-10, 0-3).
Robeson 65, Dunbar 51–The Raiders (12-5, 2-1) warmed up for Friday`s Red-Central battle against King with Donnell Thomas scoring 25 points and Anthony Miller 14. George Robinson had 16 for Dunbar (6-7, 0-2).
Steinmetz 60, Prosser 58–Mike Matray scored 17 points to help the Streaks (11-6, 3-0) take over first place in the Red-North. James Stokes had 18 and Marc Thomas 15 for Prosser (9-6, 1-1).
Bogan 65, Phillips 60–Frank Hartley scored 33 points and Bogan (7-7, 2-1) stunned the host Wildcats in the Red-Central. Sherman Holmes had 17 for Phillips (4-9, 1-1).
Tilden 103, Hubbard 45–Eleven players scored, with Mark Owens (29 points), Larry Powell (15) and Eddie Davis (14) leading the way, as Tilden
(8-3, 3-0) took over first place in the Blue-Central. Hubbard dipped to 4-8, 2-1.
Taft 41, Schurz 40–Vince Crostin`s free throw with 8 seconds remaining and Andre Dockens` 17 points made Taft (10-6, 2-1) a winner in the Red-North. Moseth Sample had 17 for Schurz (6-10, 1-2).
Harper 68, Curie 62–Melvon Foster (32 points) and Travis Hobbs (17) led the way as Harper (5-8, 2-1) dropped Curie to second place in the Blue-Central. Larry Brown had 33 for Curie (5-9, 2-1).
Gordon Tech 61, Maine East 58–Maurice Nelson scored 8 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter, including a 15-footer that gave the Rams (11-3) a 59-57 lead, their first of the game. Keith Parlich had 36 points for Maine East
(7-6).
Chicago Latin 67, Ida Crown 40–The Romans (5-10) got 22 points from Shannon Bookey and 16 from Danny Karatosic to override a 24-point effort by Igal Litovsky, the state`s leading scorer.
Niles North 64, Fenton 60–Niles North (7-8, 4-4) prevailed in the North Suburban Conference behind the scoring of Jim Foster (19 points), Joe Seidel
(15) and Mark Molay (14). Fenton is 2-9, 2-6.
Sullivan 58, Amundsen 55–Sullivan (8-7, 3-0) trailed 38-29 at the half but rallied to retain a share of first place in the Blue-North as Derrick Brewer scored 18 points, Sean Gaines 16 and Charles Crockson 14. Charles Wardah had 19 for Amundsen (2-7, 1-2).
Du Sable 75, Kelly 59–Anthony Jones scored 21 and Shan Wright 15 as Du Sable (4-8, 1-2) won its first in the Blue-Central. Larry Dunaj and Phil Gomez had 17 apiece for Kelly (6-9, 0-3).
Lake View 52, Kelvyn Park 41–Lake View (5-6, 1-2) broke the ice in the Blue-North behind Danny Johnson`s 27 points. Kelvyn Park dropped to 2-11, 0-3. Girls` basketball
St. Edward 82, St. Francis 41–St. Edward (14-1, 5-0), No. 11 in The Tribune poll, breezed in the West Suburban Catholic Conference behind Julie Mousel (24 points) and Beth Hasenmiller (22).
Phillips 53, Tilden 25–Angie Warfield (17 points, 12 rebounds) and Jennifer Brookins (16 points, 12 rebounds) led the way as Phillips (9-2, 3-0) romped in the Public Red-Central.
