Caterpillar Inc. said shareholders gave their blessing to a name change, abandoning its former monicker, Caterpillar Tractor Co. The name change took effect Thursday. ”Caterpillar Inc. better reflects the type of business we have become,” said George Schaefer, chairman. ”In the 1920s we were a tractor company. Today we offer far more.” Besides tractors, Caterpillar provides engines, lift trucks and paving equipment.
