Yes, President Reagan is right when he says that Star Wars will produce jobs.
But the same money spent on normal economic activities would create an extra 6,000 jobs for every billion dollars expended on that expensive project that has been condemned as impractical and wasteful by a huge majority of scientists and technicians who are the authorities in that field.
One hundred billion dollars pays for 48,000 Department of Defense jobs, or 76,000 public housing jobs or 77,000 nursing jobs or 100,000 teachers.
So the strategic defense initiative is not an employment boon, a financial bargain or a military solution.
