My father always told me I was too intelligent to be a Republican, and now that I am 48 years old and the holder of an MBA degree, I think he may be right.

I will vote for a Democrat in 1988, if the Democrats do not have a replay of their 1984 San Francisco convention. If the Democrats nominate a Sam Nunn or other heir to the Scoop Jackson wing, I will vote Democratic for the first time. On the other hand, if they nominate a Mario Cuomo or a Gary Hart, then my conversion will have to wait. It is up to the Democrats whether they are going to persist in their McGovernite ”death wish.”
