Builders completed homes in January at an annual rate of 1.884 million, virtually the same pace as December and exceeding expectations, the Commerce Department said. Completions were up 6.7 percent from a year earlier. Housing experts predicted home completions this year would not equal last year`s total of 1.755 million. Mild weather may have hastened construction schedules, thus accounting for the high January rate they said.
