General Motors Corp. said about 3,500 workers in Lansing, Mich., will be laid off from March 23 to April 6 to reduce unsold inventories of the compact Buick Somerset and Oldsmobile Calais. Calais sales are off 46 percent and Somerset sales are down 48 percent from year-earlier levels.
