Ivan Calderon was a last-minute scratch from Thursday`s game because of a case of the flu. He was replaced by Daryl Boston, who went to left field. Gary Redus moved to right.
— General Manager Larry Himes said LaMarr Hoyt won`t be available to the press until he starts playing. ”We want to make sure he`s doing something before he gives out an interview,” Himes said. ”He hasn`t done anything yet.”
— The great sock controversy may be coming to a close. Himes has fined players at home for not wearing socks to Comiskey Park. However, the Players` Association contacted Richard Dotson, the Sox`s player rep, and informed him the club can`t fine a player for such an offense. ”The club can`t dictate what the player wears at home, although they can on the road,” Dotson said.
”If a player is fined, he can go through the grievance process.”
Dotson said he doesn`t expect players to file any grievances.
