— 1957–Braves get 3 in 1st inning off Dave Hillman on Wes Covington`s 2-run triple and RBI triple by Frank Torre and go on to beat Cubs 4-2 behind Lew Burdette`s 6-hit pitching. Braves` Henry Aaron collects 3 hits.

— 1967–Curt Simmons is KO`d in 4th inning at Houston and Cubs lose to Astros 11-5. Houston`s Bob Aspromonte goes 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs. Fifth straight loss drops Cubs 2 1/2 games behind 1st-place St. Louis.

— 1977–Rick Reuschel shuts out Cardinals 2-0 before Thursday crowd of 27,864 at Wrigley Field for 6th straight victory and 12th of the year. Larry Biittner homers and Greg Gross goes 3-for-4 as Cubs defeat Larry Dierker.

— 1957–Sweep Comiskey Park double-header, beating Cleveland 9-8 in 13 innings and 7-2 to extend winning streak to 5 and cut Yankees` AL lead to 2 1/ 2 games. Down 6-0 in 1st game, rally to win on Luis Aparicio`s bases-loaded single. Jack Harshman throws 5-hitter in Game 2.

— 1967–With bases loaded and 2 out in 9th and Sox trailing 1-0, Ron Hansen grounds a single off glove of shortstop Zoilo Versalles to drive in tying and winning runs as Sox beat Twins 2-1 before 31,200 at Comiskey Park. Gary Peters and Hoyt Wilhelm combine on 2-hitter. Sox lead 2d-place Twins by 3 1/2 games.
