The July 24 editorial ”Welfare reform deserves a chance” is a reasonable statement, except for one sentence. In referring to job training, you say, ”The training would have to be real, not just teaching welfare mothers to work in day care centers to take care of the children of other welfare mothers.”

What a demeaning statement. I strenuously object to the statement that training for day care staff is somehow not real, and the implication that taking care of children is not a real job.

I`m sure you have written other editorials in which children are extolled as our greatest resource.
