After 20 years of writing, William Kotzwinkle is hot in Hollywood.
Four of his books have been bought for the movies this year, reports Paul Nathan in Publisher`s Weekly. ”The Sandman” and ”Jack in the Box” were picked up by New Line Cinema. Force Ten Productions bought ”The Exile,” and an independent producer bought ”Her Nightingale.”
Why is Kotzwinkle suddenly sizzling? Nathan suggests his adventure in the low-rent (but paying-the-rent) field of movie-novelization might be the reason, as Kotzwinkle`s novelization of the movie ”E.T.” became a surprise best-seller.
In other film news, the success of ”Masters of the Universe” ($4.8 million in the first three days) might help put Cannon Co. back on track. Cannon movies have been doing all right overseas, as well, and the company has a lot of new product to sell this fall, ”Barfly,” ”Shy People” and ”Death Wish IV” included.
