It`s easy to explain the success of Sally Field`s marriage: Opposites attract. In the September issue of Ladies Home Journal, Field is described as obsessively neat; her husband, producer Alan Greisman, can never find things. She works out; he watches TV. She`s a homebody; he`s a party animal. But it works. Field`s stepfather, actor Jock Mahoney, who raised her from the time she was 4, says, ”(Alan) is warm, fun-loving and very bright-which is exactly the kind of person Sally needs.”
Calling all trivia buffs: ”The Complete Directory to Prime Time TV Stars” (Ballantine), by Tim Brooks, can end a lot of your arguments. Such as: Who sang love songs to her ex-husband on their TV series even though she was pregnant by another man? Answer: Cher continued to sing ”I Got You, Babe” to Sonny even though she was pregnant by Gregg Allman. And who was TV`s oldest teenager? Answer: Frankie Thomas played a teenager on ”Tom Corbett, Space Cadet” until he was 34.
”If you can`t say anything nice about someone, don`t say anything.”
That`s one old saw that Rock Hudson apparently didn`t believe in. In the September issue of Penthouse, his former lover, Marc
Christian, has him saying nasty things about just about everyone, among them Liz Taylor: ”He could get exasperated with her, but he really did love her. But he also said he didn`t respect her.” Dustin Hoffman and Al Pacino: ”He deeply resented that period when (they) and the people he called `super uglies` came on the scene. He decided you had to look like a beast to make it. There was a lot of bitterness there because he really wanted to stretch himself (as an actor), but he didn`t know how to do it.”
