The Sox still have 24 games left, and manager Jim Fregosi wants to make the most of them. He didn`t give his team any big speeches before Tuesday`s early workout for the position players. He felt the players knew his intent just by having them be there. ”I`m not going to sit back and let this club get lazy,” Fregosi said. ”If a guy strikes out or hits a popup, that`s part of the game. But catching fly balls also is part of the game.”
When asked if he felt the workout was needed, Greg Walker said, ”If the manager thinks so, then it`s so.”
Ozzie Guillen was back in the starting lineup Tuesday for only the second time in 10 games.
Fregosi doesn`t need any background on Frank Lucchesi as a manager. Lucchesi was his manager at Texas in 1975. ”He`s a very good friend of mine,” Fregosi said.
