As a lawyer who has practiced for over 50 years, I have followed the hearings on Judge Robert Bork for confirmation as U.S. Supreme Court justice. It is my opinion that Judge Bork is one of the best-qualified candidates for such a position since Justices Holmes and Brandeis.
There are many social and moral problems of society of a local nature that were intended to be and are left to the decision and vote of the local, state or other political entity. Judge Bork believes the people affected by such questions should have the right to accept or reject such proposed laws.
After all, the people are the ones affected and who must live under and enforce such laws. Pseudo-liberals like Sen. Kennedy, contrary to the views of the Southern branch of the Democratic Party, now apparently feel federal judges should have the right to impose far-out liberal views on the people whether they like it or not.
